What are the benefits of using a USB interface camera?
USB cameras offer integration with minimal effort and, in some cases, can offer UVC-compliance, which enables plug-and-play. The bandwidth of USB can achieve 5Gbps (depending on whether you are using USB 2.0 or USB 3.0) and can reach a range of up to 7 metres with passive cables. However, you can use an active optic cable to facilitate a longer cable distance of up to 100m, which may require an external power source (Active optic cables, in most cases, are at a higher price point and may not provide power to the end device).
What are the 33U series cameras?
The Imaging Source's 33U series is a comprehensive range of industrial cameras that provides developers and integrators with a wide range of resolutions and frame rates to choose from. With a USB 3.0 interface, these cameras offer efficient data transfer and can achieve up to 20MP and frame rates of up to 539 fps (higher with ROIs). These industrial cameras are compact, lightweight, and come with full-featured capabilities, making them a cost-effective solution for imaging needs.

FAQ's & Further Information
How do I choose the right camera for my application?
Choosing the right camera involves evaluating several key factors, including the size and speed of the object being inspected, the required resolution, the field of view, and environmental conditions such as lighting and vibration. Understanding these parameters ensures that the selected camera can reliably capture the necessary image data for accurate inspection or measurement.
Do I need a rolling shutter or a global shutter camera?
The choice between a rolling shutter and a global shutter depends on your application, particularly the speed of motion you need to capture and the level of image accuracy required.
A rolling shutter sensor captures an image line-by-line. This makes it a cost-effective option and perfectly suitable for many general-purpose vision tasks where objects are relatively static or moving slowly. However, when imaging fast-moving objects or scenes with rapid changes, rolling shutter can introduce distortion (such as skewing or “jello” effects).
A global shutter sensor, on the other hand, captures the entire image at the same instant. This eliminates motion distortion and ensures accurate image capture, making it ideal for high-speed applications such as industrial automation, robotics, and inspection systems.
