About the Tordivel technology

Industrial Vision. Engineered for the Real World.

Machine vision has never been a simple discipline. The gap between a system that works reliably under controlled conditions and one that performs consistently on a live production line is wide; and in industrial environments, that gap has real consequences. Tordivel exists to close it. Combining software, hardware, and more than three decades of accumulated field knowledge, we deliver complete, production-ready vision solutions built not around demonstration, but around the demands of real industrial operation.

At the heart of every Tordivel deployment is the Scorpion ecosystem: a tightly integrated platform spanning Scorpion Vision AI, SmartEdge embedded processing, and Scorpion Stinger 2D and 3D cameras. These components are not assembled from disparate parts, they are engineered to function as a unified system, designed to see, analyse, and act in real time. The result is a level of coherence that discrete, bolt-together approaches rarely achieve.

What Makes a Tordivel Solution Different

Most vision systems address isolated problems. They are configured for a specific task, deployed, and left largely static; useful until requirements shift or environments change. We take a different view. Our solutions are designed from the outset as complete, integrated systems that evolve alongside the operations they support.

This distinction has practical implications. Rather than replacing hardware and rebuilding configurations when production demands change, customers work within a backward-compatible platform that accommodates upgrades without disrupting existing deployments. Long-term investment is protected not through lock-in, but through deliberate architectural continuity.

The same philosophy extends to complexity. Advanced functionality, whether in AI-based inspection, 3D spatial analysis, or robot guidance, is made accessible through a platform that reduces the traditional overhead of development and maintenance. What this means in practice is faster time to deployment, lower ongoing operational cost, and systems that remain maintainable over years rather than months.

The Scorpion Ecosystem

Scorpion Vision AI - Intelligent, Adaptive Vision

Scorpion Vision AI represents a significant shift in what machine vision can be asked to do. Rather than relying on static configuration, the system uses deep learning to handle complex inspection and classification tasks, including applications where variation, ambiguity, or subtlety would challenge conventional rule-based approaches.

The platform supports combined 2D and 3D vision, enabling full spatial understanding of objects and surfaces rather than the limited perspective a single imaging mode provides. Equally important is the system's capacity for ongoing improvement: AI-driven analysis allows existing deployments to be reviewed, refined, and optimised over time. Natural language interaction further reduces the friction of configuration and troubleshooting, lowering the barrier between operator intent and system behaviour.

SmartEdge - Embedded Intelligence at the Source

Processing latency is not an abstract concern in production environments. When a vision system's decision must inform a robotic movement, a rejection signal, or a downstream control action, the interval between image capture and result matters. SmartEdge addresses this by embedding processing capability directly within the vision system, eliminating the round-trip to a remote server and the uncertainty that comes with it.

The architecture delivers deterministic communication, meaning images are not lost under load, and maintains stable, low-latency performance even in electrically noisy or physically demanding industrial settings. The effect is reliable, high-performance AI vision that operates at the speed the production environment demands, not the speed the network can sustain.

Scorpion Stinger™ Cameras - Precision 2D and 3D Vision Hardware

The Scorpion Stinger camera range provides the sensing foundation for the platform. Available in 2D, 3D, and colour-calibrated configurations, the cameras are designed for industrial deployment: robust in construction, food-safe where required, and tightly integrated with both Scorpion Vision Software and SmartEdge processing.

Tight hardware-software integration matters here. Calibration, timing, and data transfer are handled within a single coherent system rather than bridged across mismatched components. The practical consequence is more accurate, more repeatable data; the kind that supports reliable inspection and precise robot guidance across extended production runs.

A Fully Integrated System

Together, the three elements of the Scorpion ecosystem form a complete operational chain: Stinger cameras capture; SmartEdge and Scorpion Vision AI process and interpret; the Scorpion platform translates the result into a decision, a control signal, or an action within the broader automation environment. This integration, from sensor to output, is what distinguishes the platform from collections of independently sourced components, and it is what makes consistent, long-term performance achievable rather than aspirational.

Long-Term OEM Partnerships

Tordivel's relationship with OEM partners is structured around integration and continuity. Rather than supplying a standalone vision component, we work as a technology partner, embedding intelligent vision directly into partner machines and automation platforms through deep technical collaboration and shared investment in long-term platform stability.

This approach has clear operational benefits. Systems built on the Scorpion platform can scale across multiple machine variants, adapt to evolving production requirements, and deliver consistent performance without requiring each new application to be built from the ground up. For OEMs, this means the vision capability embedded in their products today is not a fixed specification, it is a foundation that can grow.

What Customers Gain

A Tordivel solution is not simply a means of adding vision to a production process. It is a commitment to a particular standard of reliability, adaptability, and long-term value.

Deployment timelines are shortened through a proven, mature platform that reduces the development effort typically associated with complex vision applications. Maintenance overhead is measurably lower: figures of up to ten times faster development cycles and up to ten times lower maintenance costs reflect the practical benefit of a system designed for sustained production use rather than periodic reinvention. The platform is AI-ready and continuously evolving, ensuring that capability added today does not become a ceiling tomorrow.

Integration with robots, PLCs, and major industrial automation platforms is built in, not retrofitted. This means our solutions fit into existing operational architectures without requiring those architectures to be restructured around the vision system.

One Company. One Standard.

Scorpion Vision Ltd, based in the UK and wholly owned by Tordivel AS of Norway, brings together local application expertise and a global technology platform with more than thirty years of combined machine vision experience. The combination allows customers to access deep technical knowledge, in robotics, AI, and industrial automation, backed by the stability and continuity of a single, coherent development organisation.

The Result

There is a meaningful difference between a vision system that adds functionality and one that delivers capability. Functionality addresses a specific task. Capability addresses a class of problems, and continues to do so as those problems evolve. Our integrated approach, built on a platform that spans AI, embedded processing, and precision imaging hardware, is oriented toward the latter. It is a standard defined not by what the system can do on day one, but by what it continues to deliver across the operational life of the production environment it serves.
