In the below image, the sugar cube is 99mm from the lens. This is the minimum distance at which the entire cube remains in focus.
The sugar cube measures 16mm x 14mm.
The coin was at a distance of approx. 43mm.
In this next image, the coin was at a distance of 350mm.
In these sample images, the sensor used was a 1/4" Sony ICX618. The first image is focused at a distance of 28mm from the lens and the second at 43mm. This lens has a small F Number of F1.8 creating a narrow depth of field.

How do I choose the right lens for my application?
