In the below image, the sugar cube is 26mm from the lens. This is the minimum distance at which the entire cube remains in focus.
The sugar cube measures 16mm x 14mm.
In the image below the coin was at a distance of approx. 10mm.
In this next image, the coin was at a distance of 134mm.
In these sample images, the sensor used was a 1/4" Sony ICX618. The first image is focused at a distance of 2mm from the lens and the second at 4mm. This lens has a medium F Number of f4.0 creating a reasonable depth of field while still letting a good amount of light reaching the sensor.
