TORDIVEL AS has developed and installed two log sorting systems at Norske Skog's Saugbrugs plant in Halden, Norway. Norske Skog is the world's second largest supplier of newspaper.

The system is based on Tordivel's standard and flexible Scorpion Vision Software platform and uses the latest available VISION-PC technology and components. The graphical user interface has a intuitive visual feedback. To reduce development time and increase system performance a color camera was chosen for image aquisition to enable the use of advanced colour segmentation algorithms. The system is easily adapted to both new and existing installations.

The system sorts the logs using the following criteria

  • Minimum and maximum diameter

  • Minimum and maximum length

  • Conical shape

  • If the log is bent

  • The amount of peel present on the log

Specification

  • Lights: 8 x 73W at 24DC

  • Camera and lighting distance: 3.5m (widely adjustable)

  • Automatic calibration procedure
